This is the last portrait session I completed near the end of February, just before the shelter in place order. A beautiful reminder of a time of freedom- in the not so distant past. It’s astonishing that one person could order the closer of all the beauty in this Golden state, the parks, the beaches, the forest preserves. I guess the Governor has special powers. Not simply to halt the economy, but everything important about living in this state. It’s eerie, it’s certainly never ever been done. It’s really unimaginable. But here we are. For over thirty years I earned a living photographing families, couples, individuals, children and pets on the beaches of California. I absolutely loved every minute of it. Everyday I exercise optimism in the face of uncertainty, dismay and confusion. This month I postponed a dozen sessions indefinitely. I can only hope my dream is a premonition of precious moments like this coming back. I know I’m not alone. Our heart’s broken, our businesses broken- we Californians still have a dream.
