Family enjoying sunset at the beach in Laguna
As I think about the year ahead I can’t help but reminisce about the year gone by. A great many people feel the year 2020 was such a terrible experience in every way there is nothing which might redeem it whatsoever. It’s funny how images capture moments in time that can spur certain emotions and stir up thoughts of good times. Seeing your spouse laughing caught in an instant of revelry, or your child discovering the chasing of waves on the beach. At the end of every photography season I cull through hundreds of images, archiving some discarding others and cleaning up my computer files. Through this annual process I’m often struck at how I might connect with an image, bringing me back to the moment I tripped the shutter. I often find myself so full of thankfulness and wonder how lucky I am to have met and worked with so many great families and individuals through the year. I am amazed at how this cycle keeps repeating itself. Just when I think I have come to an end, I realize another great year of photographing families has ended and a new one begun. The vision I am casting for the upcoming year is one of complete optimism. I know that there will be challenges and setbacks. But I also know there will be great families who once again trust me to photograph them on the incredible beaches of Laguna. There will be cloudy days, there will be sunny days. Windy days and calm glassy seas. Crying babies and joyful toddlers. I welcome it all. It’s so great to have a new year and all it will bring.
